Well if you’ve been following this little blog of mine, you’ve noticed that it’s Monday and I’ve yet to post today. And the reason for that is pretty simple. I’m sick. Not sick enough to crawl into bed and sleep the entire day, but sick enough to call of work, and try to get some rest, all the while feeling miserable enough to not want to think. As the evening progresses I feel like I’m coming out of the haze enough to string together a few thoughts as they have occurred to me during this day of being “of the grid”.
Today I have been just that, off the grid. I barely checked my email (except for answering one that was a pretty big deal for a trip I’m working on for this Summer), I posted that I was feeling poorly on Facebook this morning, and canceled my usual Monday get together with a few friends. The strange thing is, when I came back some 12 hours later, I found that my absence from the “grid” or “internets” or “information super highway” was not cause for it to shut down for the day, or take it’s own leave of absence.
We as people, get BUSY! And I’m not talking in the James Brown sense of the term, we get super busy and we don’t often take time to take care of ourselves. During the day I took an inventory of the amount of sleep I had gotten over the past several days, and as best I can count all totaled (Thurs night – Sat night) I got about14-16 hours of sleep, yep for 3 nights… Total. It’s really no wonder I started feeling terrible by the end of Sunday night!
The point I’m arriving at is that we need to take some time to take care of ourselves. The world, the internet, our ministries will all be there waiting and whirring away when we return, and we need to be ready, and rested for it.
And on that note, I’m going to curl up on the couch, and watch an episode of Battlestar: Galactica with my wife, and then go to bed.
Blessings,
Jeremiah
Can I hold you to this? Love you!
