Fritter, and waste...

Ok, I grew up in a house that among other things gave me a decent education in classic rock. And when I think of the past few days I've had, the line of an old Pink Floyd song comes to mind "Fritter, and waste the hours in an offhand way". I haven't prioritized my time well, haven't even made a simple checklist of things that need to be done. I know that things are piling up, but I've found little motivation to even start let alone finish any of them.

This is definitely the result of the isolation of bi-vocationality. I personally am a team player, a co-conspirator if you will. In my instance, yesterday I sat in an office for about 7 hours with getting or making maybe 2 phone calls. Aside from that not a single human voice entered my life. Now to some that may sound like a little slice of Heaven, but when you are trying to get motivated and the only thing you can seem to do is look for yet another kid falling on his face on YouTube, you've got a real problem!

So consider this your call from a friend, or a volunteer, or your Sr. Pastor, saying "Hey how's your weekly service coming along?" or "You know, that Summer Retreat is coming up in just about a month!?", "Let's get the ball rolling on this next project!". Let's get through this together, give me your thoughts on getting motivated, what projects are piling up? Share them here and we'll compare notes.

Thanks for reading.

Blessings,

Jeremiah

  1. My sister shared a way to be motivated with me. Set three goals for yourself. Identify specific things and ways to achieve those goals over a determined period of time. If you've accomplished said goals then a reward of some kind is given. If said goals aren't accomplished, then a penalty of some kind is given and a reevaluation of the goals are necessary. What makes all of this happen? Involving another active member as a witness! In a lot of ways, it's like having an accountability partner, having someone you trust and who will help you stay on track!

  2. Didn't find a place to send you a message or know much about you, so this comment will have nothing to do with your post. But how are you using the word bi-vocational in this blog? the word has various definition and my degree is actually in bi-vocational missions so just curious on your definition. thanks man!!

  3. Hey thanks for checking out my blog. The term Bi-vocational in the form that I'm using it refers to the fact that I am holding down two jobs. I have a day job that keeps me busy 40 hours a week, and my ministry job which fills up the rest of my time. This is a term that's become pretty common in the youth ministry circles, as many youth workers are bi-vocational.

    Thanks for checking in!
